I am the grandaughter of William Angus VC. I wondered if any of you can help me. I am in the process of writing about his life but although I spent a lot of my childhood in Carluke with him, I was not about in the period I need information on. I need to know about Carluke as it was between 1888 and 1914. What the pits were called? How people lived in the town? etc. General information is all I want.
If anybody can help me please contact me. Thankyou.

What can I say about Carluke except I have many happy childhood memories of it. As a small boy my Gran moved from Bonkle to Elderslea Road where she stayed for many years before moving to Whitehill Crescent. I spent every school holiday up there with my parents and sister. (My mum was born and brought up in Morningside before moving down to England with my dad). I absolutely loved Carluke. I still have an aunt and cousins living there now. Happy days indeed. |

Just having a look at where my grandparents came from. My grandfather was Alexander McColl and he immigrated to Canada in the early 1900s. He had a brother Duncan, a sister Fannie and quite a few other siblings. My grandmother was Isabelle and she worked at the jam factory prior to them moving to Canda. Hunter was her mother's maiden name. Just curious.

Researching family history of the Moffats from Carluke. My grandparents - Frederick Moffat and Mary Dolan were married (whereby Mary became Mary Moffat) in Feb 1918 at the Parish Church Manse Carluke and were living at Dovecot Lane and Rankin Street respectively. They had 5 children that I know of - Frederick, James, Hugh (my father), Robert and Mary. In 1924 when my father was born they were living at Foundry Cottage and my grandfather Frederick was working at the Foundry (is it still there ??). My grandfather Frederick had a bad accident in 1940 whilst working as a Furnaceman (presumably still at the Foundry) and died from his injuries in Royal Infirmary Glasgow - at this time they were living in Mauldslie Road, Carluke. If anyone has any information about my family, the places/addresses mentioned or anything relevant I would be extremely grateful if they would contact me.

If people within your community are worried about flooding and wonder if there's anything you can do to be better prepared then look no further. Floodline, Scotland's free national flooding information and advice service, can be accessed by phone on 0845 988 1188 or online at www.sepa.org.uk/flooding. It's run by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and our highly trained staff can tell you if you live within a flood warning scheme area, if any flood watches or warnings have been issued for an area, and can also provide practical advice on what to do before, during and after a flood. I would be grateful if you could include our telephone number and/or link to our website from your site. I think this would benefit people within your community to know that this service exists if they may require it.

Hello - I pulled up the website for Carluke. I live in Rochester Hills, Michigan USA. I have an antique grandfather clock and am trying to find out something about it. On the painted face it says "Carluke" and has a painting of Mary Queen of Scot's abdication. It also has "Purdie & Safely" painted on the face. I had never heard of Carluke and was wondering if there are any clock shops which may have had this clock before. I appreciate you taking the time to read my note. Thank you for your assistance. Your town looks beautiful and someday I would love to come to Scotland.

I am researching my family history and looking for any information on the Anderson and Rogerson families of Carluke. My grandfather was John Anderson (born 26th January 1875 in Carluke; and died 26th December 1940 in Hamilton). He was the son of George Anderson and Elizabeth Scott. John Anderson married Marion Brown Rogerson (born 13th September 1877 at Scouler Hall, Carluke) at Law, Carluke on 31st December 1897. I have compiled a fairly detailed history for John and Marion's ancestors, but I am particularly interested in tracing the descendents of John and Marion.
